    What is a Cockapoo ?

    DAIKICHI is a Cockapoo (Cockerpoo).

    Description

The Cockapoo has a face that resembles both the Poodle and the American Cocker Spaniel. The back is sturdy and is as long as the dog is tall. The coat is dense and the tail is long and close.

    Temperament

The Cockapoo is good with children and are easy to obedience train. This breed gets along well with other dogs.

    Height, Weight

    Weight:
Teacup Toy - under 6 pounds (3 kg.) grown weight
    Toy - under 12 pounds (5 kg.)
    Miniature/Mini - 13 to 18 pounds ( 5.5 - 8 kg.)
    Maxi - over 19 pounds. (9 kg.)

    Height: 14-15 inches (35-38 cm.)

    Health Problems

The Cockapoo has a much lower incidence of skin problems than the American Cocker Spaniel. The hip joints do not suffer from inherited problems.

    Living Conditions

The Cockapoo will be good for apartment life. They are fairly active indoors and a small yard is sufficient. They prefer cool climates.

    Exercise

The Cockapoo will enjoy a nice daily walk and chances to run free in a safe enclosed area.

    Life Expectancy

    About 13-15 years.

    Grooming

This breed requires a lot of grooming. Cockapoos shed little to no hair and are good for allergy sufferers.

    Origin

The Cockapoo originated in the USA in the 1960's. It is a cross between the American Cocker Spaniel and the Miniature Poodle. It is getting popular in North America and may soon be a recognized breed. Like other crosses, the first dogs were the result of unplanned mating, but more recently, as numbers have increased, mating between the Cockapoos have become planned. The Poodle is evident both in the face and coat texture, and in the personality of this new "breed." Like the Poodle, the Cockapoo is an intent observer, not given to the hyperactive excesses of many American Cocker Spaniels.
